Children’s Bureau National Initiatives
The Children’s Bureau (CB) sponsors three national campaigns—National Adoption Month, National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and National Foster Care Month. These initiatives aim to raise public awareness of the importance of community-driven, equitable access to concrete supports for families; provide support for kin caregivers and foster families; and achieve permanency for children and youth through adoption.
Each campaign emphasizes CB's priorities of authentic youth and family engagement through shared decision-making.
National Adoption Month
The National Adoption Month campaign seeks to increase national awareness of adoption issues, bring attention to the need for adoptive families for teens in the foster care system, and emphasize the value of youth engagement.
National Child Abuse Prevention Month
The National Child Abuse Prevention Month campaign aims to elevate the importance of communities working together to help families thrive, increase awareness about child and family well-being, and offer effective strategies and resources that provide concrete supports to families.
National Foster Care Month
The National Foster Care Month campaign works to raise awareness about the role of foster parents, family members, volunteers, mentors, policymakers, child welfare professionals, and other members of the community who help children and youth in foster care find permanent homes and connections.
