National Adoption Month Resources

Child welfare professionals should connect with youth so they can work together to find connections and cultivate relationships that foster positive identity and permanency. Young people can benefit from a strong support network that meets their needs; embraces and affirms their racial, ethnic, and cultural identity; and promotes family, community, and cultural connections. By honoring every youth and their network, child welfare professionals and others can work toward an adoption that is meaningful and purposeful, paving the way for healing, well-being, and long-term stability.

Below are resources that highlight strategies that professionals can use to build relational permanency through lasting, lifelong connections and to support youth before, during, and after adoption. They include an emphasis on relational permanency; information on supporting kin caregivers to positively impact stability and permanency outcomes; and resources related to developing and sustaining comprehensive, culturally responsive, and accessible postpermanency services.
